I knew it.
You hate NFTs.
You probably despise them, actually. The whole idea sounds ridiculous. Collecting JPEGs for money? Really?
Like, why? Who Does that?
You can just right-click save. Boom. Free art.
But, I promise you… it’s a little deeper than that.
Yeah, I could hit you with the usual:
“The blockchain is like a museum for digital art.”

Or, “NFTs are about legacy. You know, like a permanent, verifiable record that shows you created something and who collected it.”
And it’s all true.
It’s no different than a limited-edition physical print, really.
You choose the run: 20, 50, 100, whatever, hell, maybe just one. That’s it. That’s all there is.
Sure, someone could scan your print, take a photo of it, make it their desktop wallpaper, and even reprint it and frame it.
Same as online.
But that doesn’t change the fact that only 50 official prints exist.
Only 50 you signed.
Only 50 with your name attached to them.
NFTs do the exact same thing, just digitally and on-chain.
The number of editions, who owns them, who minted them, it’s all recorded, permanently.
I could say all that, but I won’t.
OK, fine, maybe I just did, but you’ve probably heard all that before, and you still rolled your eyes.
But here’s the part people miss:
NFTs aren’t just about files or scarcity or even technology.
They’re about connection.
They’re a way for someone to say, “I believe in what you’re doing.”
It’s like a digital hug, except it also puts food on your table.
It’s not just a donate button.
It’s a moment. A gesture. A way of saying, “Hey, this photo means something to me. I see your work, and I want to be part of the story you’re telling.”
And you get to give them something in return.
Not just a thank-you email or a social media shoutout.
You are offering something collectible.
Something they can hold onto, show off, and add to their collection.
It’s a new kind of relationship between artists and their audience.
More personal. More intentional.
So maybe you still think it’s dumb. Maybe it still feels like a scam.
That’s fair. I mean shit, there have been a lot of cash grabs, hype trains, and rug pulls.
There’s a lot of noise, to be honest.
But if you look past all that noise…
What you’ll find underneath is actually kind of beautiful.
It’s artists putting their work out into the world.
It’s collectors saying, “I want to see more of this.”
It’s support with substance.
And if you’ve ever sold a print, or had someone commission a shoot, or even just message you to say your work meant something to them…
Then you already understand what NFTs are really about.
They’re just the modern version of that. A little weirder, sure. But also way more powerful than people give them credit for.
So before you roll your eyes again…
Maybe just sit with that for a minute.

Enjoyed this. I'm really interested in NFTs but don't particularly care for anything other than Bitcoin. Not sure how to resolve that...
Well put!
To be honest, I haven't met any open hatred towards NFTs, but maybe because my communication is mostly in the circles of people involved in Web3.... They may not understand the idea of NFTs, but not the hatred of🙃
